Vectors basics

Intuition

Understand first, compress later.

Vectors encode direction and magnitude and can be read geometrically and algebraically.

Switch representations

Adding vectorsa + b = (5, 4)

Attach b to the tip of a (or a to the tip of b) and you land on the same point: the dashed copies close the parallelogram. Addition happens componentwise — 4 + 1 = 5 across, 1 + 3 = 4 up.
